Breaking Ground!

So a quick update from the last post...

Remember when I laid out all those grand plans? Well, then we got the final bids back from contractors. Wow. It is amazing how fast a project adds up. It was a bit of a gut wrenching decision, but we decided to scale back. Just a little bit.

In the end, we decided to go with MOST of the project, however with less wall movement/replumbing of entire house. More of a total facelift, as opposed to deep cosmetic surgery:).

Of course, this meant re-submitting plans to the city for permits, getting new contractor bids, and all of this right as the holiday season was getting under way, so things slowed down again. We finally signed with a contractor on Friday, December 16th. So imagine my surprise on the first morning of Winter Break, the next Monday, when I casually did a drive-by of the house and saw this:

Is that a port-a-potty in my driveway?

Upon closer inspection, I confirmed that Santa Claus had arrived early and brought the best Christmas gift ever: demolition in progress at our 6 months-vacant-house!

And now the decision making for all the finishes begins!
